What is 2FA?
2-Factor Authentication (2FA) is a layer of security in addition to your username and password. When you have 2FA enabled for your account, you will need to provide your password and your 2FA code, or scan a QR code when signing into your Coinsquare account through your browser.
While there are different types of 2FA available, Coinsquare currently uses the Time-Based One Time Password (TOTP) method. TOTP is a temporary passcode generated by an algorithm which is used to authenticate access to your account.
How do I enable 2FA on my Coinsquare account?
Enabling 2FA gives your account an additional layer of protection, above and beyond just your password. Our recommended 2FA provider is the Google Authenticator app, but you can use any reputable 2FA app with your Coinsquare account.
To activate Google 2FA, first install the Google Authenticator app on your mobile device. You can find this app in the App Store (iOS) and the Google Play Store (Android).
1. Log into your Coinsquare account on your mobile app or the desktop website.
- If you're on the app, go to More > Settings and tap '2-step verification.
- If you're on the website, navigate to 'Settings' and then click '2-step verification in the security section.
2. Follow the on-screen instructions to scan or copy and paste the code into your Authenticator app. If done correctly, this should generate a 6-digit code in the Authenticator app.
3. On the next page, enter the active 6-digit code displayed in the Authenticator app (these are valid for 30 seconds) and tap 'Verify.'
The status for 2-step verification (2FA) on your Coinsquare account should now display as 'On'.
Once you enable 2FA, you will be asked to input a randomly-generated 6-digit code from your authenticator app in addition to your password, each time you login.
